Hey everybody, this is Brad from Johnson Small Engines, better known as the one-hand mechanic. If I can do it, you can too. Today, we have here a non-adjustable Tecumseh carburetor that is in pretty bad shape, and I'm gonna show you how to rebuild it.
So, the first thing I want to do is show you the tools and parts that we're gonna need. On most Tecumseh carburetors, the ones that are non-adjustable, you're going to note that they're not adjustable because they have a bolt here that's actually a jet, and there is no adjustment. You can just tell by looking at the carburetor. You're not going to have a screw right here, which is usually a brass screw that you can adjust on an adjustable carburetor.
The tools we need today from left to right: half inch wrench or a half inch socket with a ratchet, a small flathead screwdriver, a Tecumseh tool, a little small piece of wire for cleaning the inside of the carburetor, a couple picks for cleaning up the carburetor, a T10 Torx, a few different kinds of drill bits, a pair of needle nose vice grips, a wire brush, carb cleaner, and a flashlight.
Now, let's talk about the parts we need. We have a carb kit that will pretty much do all the carburetors on Tecumseh non-adjustable carburetors from 5 force to 10 force. It comes with pretty much everything you need, except for the emulsion tube. We also have different color emulsion tubes, and these are all genuine Tecumseh parts.
Alright, let's go ahead and start taking this carburetor apart. First, we're going to take the bottom nut off using a half inch wrench or socket. This is the jet, the high-speed jet, and it has a couple of very small holes in it. We're going to clean it with a small wire. Different methods of cleaning carburetors work, but I found that a small piece of wire works great. We're also going to clean it with an ultrasonic cleaner or carb cleaner.
Next, we need to clean the other parts of the carburetor, such as the gasket and the needle valve. These are going to be replaced with the parts from the kit.
Overall, we have all the tools and parts we need to rebuild this non-adjustable Tecumseh carburetor. Let's get to it and start taking it apart.
